What is Meta Muse?
Meta Muse is a personal AI agent from Meta that acts on your behalf instead of just answering questions. Announced September 8, 2026, Muse browses the web, fills out forms, sends email, books travel, and makes purchases while you supervise. Meta's newsroom describes it as built for everyone, with no learning curve and no technical experience required.
You talk to Muse the way you message a person, in the Muse app on iOS or Android, in the muse.ai web app, or directly inside WhatsApp. Meta says support on its AI glasses is coming.
Watch the naming, because Meta now ships several things called Muse. Muse is the agent product. Its engine is Muse Spark, a model Meta calls its most capable to date. The open-weights model Meta released in August, Muse Glimmer, is a separate developer line; our Muse Glimmer review covers that one.
How does Muse work?
Muse is not a chatbot bolted onto a messaging app. Each user gets a Muse Secure VM, a dedicated cloud virtual machine with its own browser, where the agent and its data live. Meta says the machine is contained so no one else's agent can reach it.
Two controls carry the safety design. A separate Sentinel agent runs on the same machine at the system level, and nothing Muse does reaches the internet unless the Sentinel approves it, asking you for permission when needed. Muse also checks with you before sensitive actions like sending an email or making a purchase, offering allow-once, always-allow, or deny for each action.
- Audit trail: Muse shows a complete record of what it has done and what it plans to do.
- Credentials: passwords and payment details sit in secure storage, so Muse can use them without seeing them. 1Password support is coming soon.
- Background work: tasks keep running after you close the app, and Muse comes back when something changes or it needs approval.
What can Muse do at launch?

- Web actions: open a browser, fill out forms, book appointments and travel, handle customer service, and negotiate, such as lowering a bill or selling a car.
- Connected apps: email, calendar, and Instagram through Connectors, with per-app permissions you control. If a tool does not exist for a task, Meta says Muse builds it.
- Content and tracking: generate images, create documents, set reminders, track goals, and monitor things in the background, like daily weather alerts.
- Memory: Muse remembers what matters to you, turns a recipe reel saved on Instagram into a grocery list, and recalls dietary restrictions before it sends dinner invites.
- Payments: checkout runs on Link by Stripe, which generates a one-time card number so your real card stays hidden. Eligible purchases get Link's protections: coverage for damaged or lost items, price drops, no-fee returns, and a return guarantee. Shop Pay is coming soon.
Is Meta Muse free?
Yes, Muse is free, with a usage limit.
